Increasing fusarium head blight resistance in wheat (Sask Wheat newsletter)

Work underway by the University of Saskatchewan and National Research Council of Canada was profiled on Phys.org, an internet news portal that provides science-related news relating to physics, space science, earth science, health and medicine. The Canadian Triticum Applied Genomics (CTAG2) project is led by Dr. Curtis Pozniak in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Sharpe of the National Research Council Canada. Genome Canada and the Western Grains Research Foundation recently contributed $8.5 million, with co-funding from various other partners, to allow global wheat researchers to continue deciphering the wheat genome. Work is underway around the world, led by the International Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium (IWGSC). Project outcomes include a new generation of wheat cultivars that produce higher yields and are better able to resist environment stress.

Faouzi Bekkaoui recently shared the Canadian Wheat Alliance (CWA) story with over 500 participants at the International Wheat Conference in Sydney, Australia. Contact  should you wish to learn more about a possible collaboration with Canadian Wheat Alliance partners. A conference highlight was the great news that Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was chosen to host the 2019 International Wheat Conference (IWC). Delegates from 66 countries chose Canada as a potential location over Morocco, Turkey, and Ethiopia. The first IWC was held in 1972 and has never been held in North America.
