Targeting Developmental Pathways to Improve Seed Yield and Crop Performance

Targeting Developmental Pathways to Improve Seed Yield and Crop Performance

Objective: Genetic improvement of productivity in wheat.

Activities:

  • Development of a gene expression atlas for wheat germplasm and adapted Canadian cultivars
  • Investigation of the contribution of parental genomes to seed development and performance
  • Identification of genes involved in the regulation of meristems, reproductive development and performance
  • Discovery and application of genetic factors controlling photosynthetic efficiency

Deliverables:

  • A comprehensive understanding of seed development
  • Deployment of genes associated with performance and seed yield
  • Improved photosynthetic efficiency

Impacts for Canadian Wheat Industry:

  • Gene based technologies for improving seed yield and performance
  • Knowledge of the role of parental gene expression as it relates to wheat yield
  • Strategies to enhance photosynthetic efficiency to improve wheat yield
