Improving Abiotic Stress Tolerance

Improving Abiotic Stress Tolerance

Objective:  To improve drought, heat and cold tolerance of wheat.

  • Systematic and integrative analysis of water deficit/heat stress responses Identification of genes conferring water stress tolerance by modern genetical-genomics tools
  • Investigation of specific candidate genes affecting water use (WU) and water use efficiency (WUE)
  • Defining cold and freezing stress adaptation ideotypes from glycerolipid metabolism and gene expression profiles

  • Molecular and metabolic markers for traits of abiotic stress tolerance

Impacts for Canadian Wheat Industry:

The project will lead to molecular tools for water usage efficiency in spring wheat and cold tolerance in winter wheat.
